Office of Former Deputy D.A. Samuel Dordulian Issues Statement Following Baseless Allegations From District Attorney George Gascon’s Team

Regarding the statement from D.A. Gascon’s team alleging attorney Samuel Dordulian “appears to be actively recruiting new clients, and his salacious application of the law leaves little doubt as to why,” we feel it necessary to note the following facts:

We can categorically confirm that Mr. Dordulian is not recruiting new clients. Rather, dozens of Deputy District Attorneys in Gascon’s office (and numerous additional law enforcement officials) have implored Mr. Dordulian to represent these victims because they are being deprived of justice through the D.A.’s new special directives. The very personnel Mr. Gascon is responsible for leading have resorted to reaching out to Mr. Dordulian because they are desperate to assist these victims, but feel hamstrung and without options.

Secondly, Mr. Dordulian is representing every client pro bono, and has nothing to gain financially from doing so. In fact, the surge of requests coming from Gascon’s own office has left Mr. Dordulian overextended, having to balance an already full roster of clients with the new victims negatively impacted by Gascon’s policies.

The Gascon statement would be amusing if it weren’t so unfortunately tone-deaf. It is indicative of a sort of alternate reality with which Gascon appears to be aligned – attempting to reform the justice system by unilaterally dismantling it through blanket policies that put the interests of rapists, child abusers, stalkers, drunk drivers who kill innocent victims, and various other criminals ahead of the residents of Los Angeles.

Justice reform is possible, but it requires a nuanced approach that considers cases individually. Gascon’s special directives are reckless, and implemented without any foresight, let alone the infrastructure necessary to allow for a modicum of success.

The Gascon team’s unfounded accusations directed at Mr. Dordulian are merely an attempt to deflect attention away from the situation that has spiraled out of control within his own department, and are frankly an embarrassment to the once esteemed Los
Angeles District Attorney’s Office where Dordulian worked for 13 years.
